Independence Day
249 years ago, the Declaration of Independence was signed, with John Hancock marking his signature so large that his name has gone down in history for that if for nothing else.
I had plans for a much longer post to kick off July, but the Revolutionary War in Quebec will have to wait for the second post of the month.
I know for many people, celebrating Independence when it feels like we are losing the core values of our country will be difficult. In that, please take a moment to celebrate in any way that you feel it is best. If you can, use your time to call your representatives. If that feels like too much this week, it is also good to do something good for your mental health. I shopped local this week, and that felt like a good step.
I spent the day of the last protest reading George vs. George to my kid and explaining protests. If you want to do something similar with your kids, do! The next generation is also important.
So, here's to marking the Fourth of July however makes sense for you.
